Can you burn two candles at the same time?
Follow each candle's label first. The National Candle Association says to place burning candles at least 3 inches apart and at least 12 inches from anything that can catch fire. Use stable, heat-resistant surfaces and keep both candles in the room you're in; you should be able to see every lit candle.
Can you mix candle scents?
Try notes you like together: vanilla with cinnamon, clean cotton with sea air, or a floral with vanilla. The pairs below are ideas based on the published scent notes. They are not results of combination burn tests. Try each candle on its own first. If the combination feels too strong or you don't like it, put one out and use the other on its own.
Candle scents that go together
- Cozy: Vanilla Bean and Comfort Spice.
- Christmas morning: Fresh Balsam and Cinnamon & Vanilla.
- Fresh and clean: Clean Cotton and Sea Breeze.
- Quiet evening: Eucalyptus Lavender Herb and White Sage & Lavender.
- Floral: Honeysuckle and Sea Salt & Orchid.
- Fall: Spiced Pumpkin Ginger and Apple Harvest.
Each of these comes as a pair of 9 oz amber jars for $40 with free shipping. See the gift pairs.
Tips for burning two candles
- Trim both wicks to ¼ inch before you light them. Here's how to trim a candle wick.
- Follow each label's burn limit, and burn for no longer than four hours. Let the candles cool for at least two hours before relighting. Don't exceed the limit while waiting for wax to reach the edge; see the first-burn guidance.
- Match the number to the room. In a small room one candle is often enough; see which size for which room.
- Put both out before you leave the room.
